Tyne Tour 2008: 7th-9th November 2008
Here is some information an a little event that I go to every year. Now I’ve been put in charge of organising the trips I thought the least I could do was invite everybody else in the club. So if you are interested in coming let me know.
The Tyne Tour is the largest mass participation Canoe Kayak event in the UK. It takes place in Hexham, Northumberland every November attracting over 1000 paddlers.
Money rased from the Tour is used to support local paddler development, particularly training for those wishing to become coaches.
The Tour is supported by a water release from Kielder Reservoir, giving 50km of reliable white water varying from easy grades to hard.
Event organisation and safety cover are undertaken by volunteers from Hexham and other local canoe clubs.
The programme for the weekend includes:
- Down River Race on Saturday afternoon (with trophies and prizes)
- Video and slide shoes from 9pm on Saturday
- Ceilidh from 8pm on Saturday night
Facilities include:
- Camping on Tyne Green, Hexham
- Frequent shuttle buses for drivers from Hexham to Barrasford and Haydon Bridge
- Access to Wentworth Leisure Centre in Hexham for toilets and showers all weekend.
- Trade Stands and refreshment outlets
- Information Tent and regular river level updates
