Thames Valley Circuit Race – 25th July
Our annual Club Hasler race is coming up soon. We need lots of volunteers! Please see the list below with descriptions of what is needed for each role. Even if you can only make a couple of hours, please sign up on the noticeboard and enter the number of hours you can manage next to your name. Alternatively you can email Sam Rippington.
Catering before the day (9am-4pm): Job requires you to buy the paddler’s food and food to sell on the day. Paddler’s food will also need to be made up the day before. All the details can be given to you on what to buy and make! Adults/ 4 people.
Catering on the day (9am-4pm): No previous experience required except how to make a tea and coffee and handling money! Adults and Juniors/4people.
Timers (10am-3pm): You will need experience of how to time a race and recording numbers from the boats. Adults/3people.
Marshalls at portage (9-4pm): Job will entail standing at the portage and making sure the public do not walk past the portage when paddlers are just about to portage. Knowledge of paddling etiquette is required. First aid qualification is useful. Adults/ 4 people.
Marshalls on turns (9-4pm): You will be required to sit in a canoe, as you will be the safety cover for that turn. You will also need to make sure that the paddlers go the correct way round the turns. One person in the boat will be the first aider and the other will be recording the paddler’s numbers. Adults and Juniors/ 5 people.
Senior First Aider (10-4pm): You will be based at the centre and will be the main first aider on site. You will need to be relatively fit, as you may need to cycle up to 1 mile to reach a paddler. If you have a bike that would be useful, however we can provide one if necessary. Adult/ 1 person.
Starter (10am-1pm): Needs to be an official starter. Adult/ 1 person.
Pre-start (10-1pm): Needs to be someone who can be firm with paddlers. You will need to make sure the paddlers do not go past their pre-start line. Adult /1 person.
Portage set up and buoy set up (8.30-10am): Job will entail setting up the portages and putting bouys out for finish line. We will need someone who can take charge of putting out bouys and portage. Adults/ 4 people.
Check in and results (9-4pm): Job is aimed at people who like to be inside and can cope with stressful situations. You will be typing in figures into computers. Training will be given beforehand. Adults/ 4 people.
Runner between timers and results (11.30am-3.30pm): Ideal for juniors. Job is to take pieces of paper from timers to results people upstairs. Juniors and Adults/ 1 person.
Car Park Monitoring (8.30-1pm): You will need to stand at the gates and make sure only club members and paddlers who are racing use the car park. Adults / 3 people.
