Ross Warland Race

November 28th, 2011 (Shirley)

By Sam Rippington
Well done to all crews who took part in the Ross Warland Race at Banbury on Sunday 27th November.   The club was very well represented, with entries in three different categories.
The first category was K1 Relay. Our junior mixed team consisted of George, Oscar and Kieran.  They completed the 20 miles as a relay in a time of 4 hours and 10 minutes.
The second category was K2, raced by Dave Seward and Paul Appleby with a time of 3 hours and 2 minutes.
Alan Freer competed in the K1 category, completing the 20 miles in one go. He finished 16th out of 29 people, in a time of 3 hours and 23 minutes.
The weather left something to be desired, with very strong winds. this was a fantastic effort by all our paddlers.

Winter Time Trial

November 15th, 2011 (Shirley)

Now that the summer evening Time Trials have finished, in order to keep measuring performance through the winter months, a set of monthly Saturday morning Time Trials are being organised for all those interested in training for events next year (subject to winter water conditions). As usual this will be open to all boats K1,K2,C1,C2,O1.
As winter training should be more endurance based, there will be the choice of either one, two or three standard Time Trial circuits to be done, with approximately a ten minute rest between them in order to rest and refuel if required. Paddlers may chose to do the first only, the first and second, or all three (DW trainees!). Start time will be 10.00am, allowing the  ultra keen to do the Park Run 5k first at 9.00am!
First circuit will be handicap start, second circuit a mass start, and third a handicap based on first circuit times. The timing will default to myself, unless anyone else is free on any of the days to volunteer.
Dates set to avoid any winter race weekends are provisionally:
Saturday 12th November – Results
Saturday 3rd December
Saturday 14th January
Saturday 4th February
Ths avoids winter race dates of Sun 27th November Warland Banbury,Sun 11th December Basingstoke,Sun 8th January Richmond, and Sun 12th February Waterside A,and leaves any DW trainees free for a long paddle on Sundays.
